Germany to Make It Easier for Skilled Migrants to Take Up Available Jobs
In order to fill the job deficit, estimates have shown that Germany needs to employ over one million people as there are 1.7 million vacancies, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
Info Migrants explains that Germany has already tried to simplify the procedure for foreigner workers hoping to find employment in the country. However, now, different organisations and industry leaders have told the government that they need even more workers.
The German newspaper, Handelsblatt, revealed that Germany currently has 1.7 million job vacancies. The highest number of these workers is needed in the air travel industry as the country’s airports have been dealing with chaos lately.
Info Migrants notes that the chaos at the airports across Germany requires new workers to be hired as soon as possible. However, due to the current laws that Germany has, things are reportedly holding up.
In this regard, earlier this month, the German ministers said that they plan on allowing companies to more easily recruit workers from other countries in order to mitigate the workers’ shortage at Germany’s airports.
The German Minister of Interior, Nancy Faeser, claimed that the country would use a similar approach to tackle staff shortages in other sectors too. According to Faeser, the labour shortage in Germany has gotten much worse due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of all the sectors, the hospitality sector has been the most affected.
Taking into account the current issues, the Minister said that she is working with Federal Labour Minister to make changes that would allow bringing more workers in.
At the same time, the Minister emphasised that the immigration laws need to be modernised and said that the authorities need to pay attention to balanced solutions and acceptance among the population.
Previously, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reported that one in four people living in Germany has migrant background. A survey carried out by the Federal Office for Statistics, Destatis, showed that by the end of 2021, around 22.3 million people living in Germany had migrant background. Such numbers mean that around 27 per cent of the entire adult population in Germany has migrant background.
Moreover, Destatis explained that in 2021Germany had an increase of two per cent in the number of persons who have migrant background compared to 2020. In 2020, the country estimated that approximately 21.9 million people had migrant background.
