Germany Sees an Increase of 175% in Tourists From GCC, Compared to 2021
According to Curlytales, which is a food, travel, experience and lifestyle content platform, Germany saw a 175 per cent increase in the number of tourists from the Gulf countries between January and August this year compared to the same period last year, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
Reportedly, the increase in visitors from the Gulf countries is a result of the campaigns of the tourism industry in Germany by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB).
Only recently, GNTB has launched a new campaign called “Embrace German Nature” that showcases nature and cultural tourism in Germany in all its aspects, with a focus on sustainable tourist attractions and outdoor activities.
The campaign also aims to encourage culturally interested travellers, families and active vacationers in the Indian market to visit Germany.
In addition, due to the approaching year-end holidays, Germany has started its preparations for the winter season, which welcomes the festive atmosphere of Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It has been predicted that the winter season will also witness an increase in bookings in the country’s famous resorts that promote activities such as skiing and other available winter sports.
Moreover, the Christmas markets have started opening this month, and most of them will be open until December 24, while some others may continue until January.
“The old town of Goslar is not just a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also hosts a beautiful Christmas market surrounded by half-timbered houses,” Germany Tourism wrote in a Twitter post.
Data provided by the Federal Statistics Office, Destatis, revealed that during September of this year, tourists spent 47.2 million nights in all accommodation facilities in Germany, with an increase of 4.7 per cent compared to 2021.
Such data also show that the number of overnight stays remains below pre-pandemic levels by 1.1 per cent.
According to Destatis, a total of 61 per cent of tourists spent their nights in hotels, followed by vacation and other short-term accommodations at 21 per cent, other tourism-related accommodations at ten per cent, and campsites at nine per cent.
In 2020, the data shows that tourist accommodation points generated €18.5 billion for Germany, while in 2021 50,912 facilities for tourists were estimated to be open across the country.
