Germany Registered 244,132 Asylum Applications Last Year
Such data also show that by the end of 2022, 1,045,185 refugees from Ukraine, mostly women and children, were registered in the central register of foreigners in Germany, AtoZSerwisPlus.dereports.
As a result, in 2022, about 80 per cent of those seeking protection which came to Germany were from Ukraine.
“The federal government works closely with the states and local authorities that care for and accommodate refugees. In 2022 alone, the federal government provided the federal states and municipalities with the financial support of €3.5 billion,” Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser pointed out in this regard.
A total of 244,132 formal asylum applications, including 217,774 initial applications and 26,358 repeated applications, were made last year, which means 53,316 or 27.9 per cent more than in 2021. In addition, 24,791 of last year’s initial applications were for children under the age of one born in Germany.
During 2022, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees BAMF decided on the applications of 228,673 people, 78,719 more applications or +52.5 per cent than in 2021.
As BMI explains, 40,911 people or 17.9 per cent of them, were granted refugee status according to the Convention on the Legal Status of Refugees of July 28, 1951. At the same time, among them were also 1,937 people or 0.8 per cent, who were recognised and had the right to asylum according to Article 16a of the Basic Law.
Moreover, a number of 57,532 persons or 25.2 per cent, were granted supplementary protection under Article 4 of the Asylum Law.
BAMF has also determined that 30,020 people (13.1 per cent) are prohibited from deportation under Article 60, paragraph 5 or paragraph 7, clause 1 of the Residence Law.
Besides, the applications of 49,330 people (21.6 per cent) were rejected. Which means that the requests of 50,880 people, or 22.3 per cent, were resolved in some other way.
According to Minister Faeser, her country has taken numerous measures to control better and organise migration to Germany. Faeser also added that temporary stationary border controls had been extended in Austria, and controls have intensified on the Czech Republic’s border.
