Germany Raises Salary Threshold for EU Blue Card Applicants in 2025
As of 2025, Germany has increased the salary requirements for foreign nationals applying for the EU Blue Card. According to the German Federal Government, applicants with a specific job offer must now earn a gross annual income of at least €48,300, representing a 6.6% increase from the 2024 requirement of €45,300.
Updated Salary Requirements for Bottleneck Professions
For foreign nationals working in bottleneck professions—such as IT, STEM, construction, and education—the annual salary threshold has also risen. In 2025, applicants must earn at least €43,759.80, up from €41,041.80 in 2024. These positions require approval from the Employment Agency to qualify for the EU Blue Card.
Young professionals entering the labor market for the first time, however, will continue to be subject to the same salary threshold as in 2024: €41,041.80.
