Germany Permits Israelis to Stay In the Country Visa-Free Until April 26, 2024
Announcing the news, the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community said that taking into account the current situation, the country has decided to suspend the requirement for a residence permit, allowing citizens of Israel to stay in Germany visa-free until April 26, 2024, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
Expressing deep concern about the situation, the German Minister of Interior, Nancy Faeser, emphasised the country’s solidarity with the people of Israel.
She said that Germany is not leaving the people of Israel alone and, at the same time, stressed that the country will continue to provide support to them.
Under normal circumstances, citizens of Israel are permitted to stay in Germany without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
However, in line with the new regulation, they will be exempt from the requirement for a residence permit and or extend their visa-free stay from January 26, 2024, to April 26, 2024.
The country’s decision to allow Israeli citizens to stay in Germany for a total of three months without requiring them to apply for a residence permit has been described as “pragmatic and unbureaucratic help” by Minister Faeser.
She said that the German government aims to provide its full support during this difficult time and extend a helping hand to those who have been affected by the conflict.
Germany has been showing its support for Israel since the beginning of the attacks. Just recently, the German state of Saxony-Anhalt said that it would require citizenship applicants to confirm that they “recognise Israel’s right to exist”. That same said, the state condemns any efforts directed against the existence of the country.
