Germany Overturns Schengen-Wide Entry Ban for British-Palestinian Surgeon

The news was announced by the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), which said that after weeks of difficulties, the Schengen-wide travel ban on the war surgeon has been successfully challenged, .

ICJP blamed Germany for unfairly banning Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta from entering the Schengen Area just because he claimed to have witnessed war crimes in Gaza during his work there.

According to ICJP, Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta was deprived of his freedom of expression and freedom to travel when he was denied entry to Germany, France, and the Netherlands.

The same stressed that now that the ban has been overturned, Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta will be able to enter any Schengen member state without being subject to any restrictions.

British-Palestinian Surgeon Was Denied Entry to France Earlier This Month

Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta was invited to take part in a French senate meeting regarding the Israel-Hamas war earlier this month.

However, upon his arrival in Paris on a flight from London, he was not permitted to enter France.

The French authorities denied entry to him as Germany had imposed a one-year entry ban.

Since Germany is a Schengen member state, Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta was automatically banned from entering all the other countries that are part of the Schengen Area.

While it appeared that Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta was not aware that Germany had imposed a Schengen-wide entry ban, he said through an official statement on his X social media account that Europe is trying to silence the witnesses to the genocide.

Despite Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta not being permitted to enter France for the purpose of attending the conference, he was still able to do so through a video call following the mobilisation of lawyers.

In addition to Professor Ghassan Abu-Sitta, who was frustrated with the EU authorities for imposing a Schengen ban on him, the Europe Écologie-Les Verts senator who organised the conference, Raymonde Poncet Monge, was also not happy about the situation.

She said that such actions were unacceptable and contacted the Ministry of Interior to provide an explanation on the matter.
