Germany Embassy Denies Visa to Moscow Resident Due to Security Concerns
According to Zakharov’s statement, this can affect the applicant’s willingness to return to his home country before the visa expires, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
The reporter also pointed out that the applicant whose visa has been denied, used to travel to Germany on a frequent basis to visit his sister who lives in a European country.
Earlier this week, Russia’s State Duma passed several amendments to the conscription law, removing any potential loopholes that candidates took advantage of in order to escape mandatory service in the past.
According to the new law, Russian nationals are banned from travelling abroad, starting seven days from the moment a draft notice is posted in their name. Currently, the new legislation is waiting to be signed, which automatically turns it into law by the Russian president. As of this moment, the new legislation is waiting to be signed into law by the Russian president.
This case of denying entry to Russian nationals follows many more that happened across EU Member States throughout the year. Recently it was reported that Austria has denied visas to most Russian delegates intending to participate in the UN ad hoc Committee.
“Most of the Russian interdepartmental delegation, namely, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Justice, did not receive Austrian visas to participate in our session,” the deputy head of the Russian mission to Vienna, Ernest Chernukhin, who was present at the meeting, confirmed.
Prior to this, the German Interior Ministry revealed that it remains set on the ban against Russian athletes, leaving them unable to attend the Olympics that will be staged in Berlin.
While the Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, is set not to lift the ban on Russian athletes, which she does following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the President of the International Olympics Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, who also is of German descent, recommends the respective authorities to permit the return of Russian and Belarussian athletes that do not support the invasion of Ukraine and aren’t affiliated with the military to be permitted to attend the global sports event. The European governments have slammed Bach for this decision, while the IOC’s President denounced the heads of EU diplomacy for their position.
In addition to the Olympics, Germany will stage several other international events throughout the year, including the World Archery Championships and the Canoe Sprint World Championships.
