Germany and Brazil Sign Declaration to Boost Skilled Worker Immigration
During their visit to Brazil, Minister Heil met his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Marinho and signed a declaration of intent for “fair immigration” to Germany.
By signing such a declaration, the German authorities said that they want to create simplified structures for promoting the immigration of skilled workers from Brazil to Germany and vice versa, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
“It is important to me that everyone should benefit from skilled worker immigration,” Minister Heil said while stressing that all people who enter Germany for work purposes need fair conditions.
In addition to the above-mentioned, Minister Heil said that one of the areas in focus is nursing care, meaning that they wish to attract more nurses from Brazil.
The decision of the German authorities to travel to Brazil and sign a declaration of intent comes amid a growing labour shortage in numerous professions in Germany.
Just recently, the German Federal Labour Agency revealed that the country is currently struggling with a labour shortage crisis that is affecting one-sixth of the professions.
According to the report issued by the Federal Labour Agency, out of 1,200 professions surveyed, 200 of them had labour shortages last year.
Such a high number of professions in Germany dealing with shortages represents a significant increase compared to 2021, when around 148 professions reported shortages.
While many professions are affected, it has been shown that service jobs in restaurants and hotels, bus drivers, and jobs in metalwork are among the ones that have joined the list of professions dealing with labour shortages.
Germany is also finding it difficult to fill in job positions in automotive technology, nursing, child care, and construction.
Furthermore, the country is also struggling with filling job positions looking for architects, pharmacists, truck drivers, and IT specialists.
In order to address this issue, the government of Germany has already decided to take measures to attract more skilled workers from countries outside the European Union.
The German authorities said earlier this year that they want to introduce some changes to the Skilled Workers Immigration Act.
Among the changes that the country plans to carry out is to make the Blue Card more accessible for more nationals of third countries holding university degrees.
Germany also wants to give permission to nationals from third countries to work in the country without following the procedures for the formal recognition of their degrees and qualifications.
