German Minister of Labour Uses His Visit to India to Promote Immigration of Skilled Workers
Minister Heil will be staying in India until July 22, and during his stay there, it is expected that he will hold discussions on the matter with his Indian counterparts, among many others, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
During his stay in India, Minister Heil said that India is an important partner for Germany and stressed that it is important for both countries to seek solutions together.
The same stressed that during the G20 meeting, they are seeking to improve the working conditions of all workers and reach an agreement on the qualification of specialists within the G20.
“In the long term, we could achieve cross-national comparability and recognition of qualifications. At the same time, I use the trip to India to find out more about the potential for skilled workers and to promote Germany as an attractive location with good working and living conditions,” the statement of Minister Heil reads.
As the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs explains, Germany and India are already cooperating in recruiting skilled workers, guided by the idea of such a move being beneficial for both parties and avoiding any kind of brain drain.
The German Federal Employment Agency and the German Society for International Cooperation have been recruiting nursing staff from the Indian state of Kerala since 2022. Moreover, the country has also been consistently making changes that would facilitate the immigration of skilled Indian workers to Germany.
Earlier in February of this year, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, said that the country wants to simplify the rules for Indian IT work experts who wish to obtain work visas.
Stressing that Germany needs many workers to meet the software development demand, Chancellor Scholz said that Germany plans to modernise its entire visa-issuing process.
The same noted that several other rules will also get relaxed so that Germany becomes a more attractive destination for Indian IT workers.
As for the other workers, including those from other countries, Germany has already passed a new law that makes it easier for skilled workers to move to the country.
The new law is expected to be fully implemented on March 1, 2024, and this means that will its implementation, third-country workers will be able to enter Germany for work purposes under much more facilitated rules.
