Fraport Introduces the World’s First Walk-Through Scanner for Passengers
Through a statement issued on September 19, the airport said the R&S QPS Walk2000 from Rohde & Schwarz aims to speed up security screenings. The same also pointed out that the initial scanner is operational in Concourse A of Terminal 1, allowing passengers to pass through it without stopping, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
This test and evaluation phase will last up to six months, providing Fraport and Rohde & Schwarz with valuable insights to improve system performance.
As Fraport explains, the main objective of the transit scanner is to increase the efficiency and convenience of security checks for passengers while respecting the same high level of security standards.
The checkpoints selected for this test phase are located in Schengen Concourse A of Terminal 1. According to the same authority, this concourse is ideal for testing due to its consistently high passenger traffic, with an average of 15,000 passengers passing daily.
Moreover, the ability of millimetre wave technology to penetrate layers of clothing eliminates the need to remove outer clothing such as jackets and coats, significantly increasing personal comfort and privacy during security checks.
The latest AI detection software can quickly distinguish both metallic and non-metallic objects. Real-time alerts for any abnormalities in passengers are displayed in a gender-neutral avatar, reducing the need for subsequent inspections.
The airport further said that regarding cases requiring further investigation, security personnel can focus on the specific areas that triggered the alert, sparing passengers from full-on collisions.
During July this year, Lufthansa passengers at Frankfurt Airport also experienced a new convenience in their travel process. As a result, 21 last check-in counters, strategically located in Concourses A and B of Terminal 1, are now available for the convenience of passengers flying with this airline.
In this regard, FRA emphasized that introducing the automated baggage drop function will allow passengers to deposit their baggage quickly and easily, even beyond the usual check-in hours. This innovative feature speeds up the check-in process and increases the overall comfort for travellers.
