Eurowings Sends €120,000 Bill to Climate Activists for Disrupting Flight Operations at Berlin Airport
At the time, after cutting through fences, breaking into restricted areas, and prompting a significant police response, the activists had been removed from the designated takeoff area by police.
The six climate activists have now been given until mid-October by Eurowings to settle their €120,000 bill. Failure to pay eventually will result in legal action on behalf of all Lufthansa Group airlines, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
The November 24, 2022, protest at Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport halted operations for two hours, causing ten flight cancellations, one diversion to Leipzig, and 21 delays that impacted airlines such as Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, and Eurowings.

The November 2022 incident in Berlin was not the end of such actions, as just a few months later, in May, activists returned and spray-painted a private plane, using these actions to raise awareness about the environmental impact of air travel.
Just months later, in mid-July 2023, activists of the well-known German climate group Last Generation glued themselves to runways at Hamburg and Düsseldorf airports, and their repeated direct actions started to wear thin with the police.
Just recently, a Last Generation activist was sentenced to eight months in prison for a street protest, while those involved in the airport protests were fined €1,600 each, a stark difference from the substantial damages demanded by Lufthansa from the activist group.
A Lufthansa spokesperson, speaking to the German newspaper Bild, affirmed the airline’s pursuit of compensation for damages caused by the other airport protests.
