Accommodation Establishments in Germany Registered 31.8 Million Overnight Stays in March 2023
Such figures have been revealed in the recent report of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), while showing that there was marked an increase of 26.5 per cent in March this year’s figures, compared to the statistics of the same period last year, AtoZSerwisPlus.de reports.
The increase noted in March this year was mainly a result of the improvement of the situation regarding the spread of the Coronavirus after, in March last year, the tourism industry was highly affected by the COVID-related restrictions.
However, despite the increase, the number of overnight stays continues to remain lower than the figures registered in March 2019, before the pandemic, by 3.7 per cent.
An increase in the number of overnight stays was also registered in February 2023. During the same month, accommodation establishments experienced a total of 40 per cent increase in the number of overnight states from tourists, compared to February last year’s statistics.
Still, the figures for February 2023 were below those recorded in February 2020 by 11.7 per cent.
“Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a 40.5 per cent increase on February 2022, when there had still been some closures and restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” the statement reads.
In January this year, 24.0 million tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in this country, thus accounting for an increase of 48.3 per cent compared to January last year’s statistics. Despite the surge in visitors’ overnight stays in January this year, in Germany, the figures remained 10.5 per cent lower than those registered in January 2020.
The Federal Statistical Office for Germany, Destatis, showed that the tourism sector marked a significantly improved last year, but the figures remained below the numbers recorded before the pandemic. In 2022, Germany registered about 450.8 million overnight stays, thus accounting for a surge of 45.3 per cent compared to 2021.
Authorities in Germany are continuously attempting to bring a large number of visitors to the country as part of efforts to help further the tourism sector recover from the devastating situation caused by COVID-19.
The figures of Destatis previously revealed that the number of tourists making reservations in German hotels as well as short-term rentals recorded last year aligns with the pre-pandemic figures, thus indicating that tourist rates have nearly completely rebounded, based on the data from four main online booking platforms.
The same source revealed that 38.6 million overnight stays were booked from online booking platforms Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia as well as TripAdvisor.
